Overview

This brief reliable screener is a stand-alone version of the Brief Cognitive Status Exam | Normative Update (BCSE™ NU) found in the Wechsler Memory Scale® Fifth Edition (WMS®-5).

The BCSE™ NU enables clinicians to quickly assess global cognitive functioning and covers the following domains:

  • Orientation
  • Time
  • Mental Control
  • Planning and Visual-Perceptual Processing
  • Incidental Recall
  • Inhibitory Control
  • Verbal Productivity

The following resources are available for BCSE™ NU

The WMS-5 kits contain the necessary materials to administer and score the BCSE NU; a separate BCSE is not necessary for use with WMS-5.

Yes. Like the WMS-IV, the WMS-5 record forms and response booklet contain the BCSE NU as an optional mental status screener.
