Steven Pfeiffer, PhD, ABPP

Steven Pfeiffer, PhD, ABPP (American Board of Professional Psychology) is a professor in the College of Education at Florida State University. He serves as director of Clinical Training. Dr. Pfeiffer joined the Florida State University faculty in 2003. Prior to his tenure at FSU, he was at Duke University, where he served as Executive Director of Duke’s internationally renowned program for gifted students, the Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP).

Pfeiffer received his PhD from the University of North Carolina in 1977. His career has included teaching at the University of Pennsylvania, Fordham University and Tulane University; serving as a clinical psychologist in the U.S. Naval Medical Service Corps; and Executive Director of Devereux Foundation’s Institute of Clinical Training & Research. Dr. Pfeiffer is a licensed psychologist, fellow of APA, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Professional Psychology.

He testified at the White House before the National Task Force on Health Care Reform and was recipient of the Excellence in Research Award from the Mensa International Education & Research Foundation. He serves on the board of a number of gifted organizations, including Supporting the Emotional Needs of the Gifted and the International Child Art Foundation.

Dr. Pfeiffer is lead author of the Gifted Rating Scales, published by PsychCorp, Pearson. Dr. Pfeiffer is a noted scholar; he has authored or coauthored 8 books, 20 book chapters, and almost 150 articles in peer-review journals. His most recent book, Handbook of Giftedness in Children, was published by Springer in 2008. Dr. Pfeiffer consults internationally on issues related to the psychological and educational needs of the gifted. He has a limited private practice, where he works with gifted children and their parents.
