Karen Callan Stoiber, PhD

Dr. Karen Callan Stoiber is a Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the Department of Educational Psychology. Dr. Stoiber has provided leadership for Division 16, as well as the Society for the Study of School Psychology and the National Association of School Psychologists. Dr. Stoiber's research interests include early literacy, evidence-based practices, functional assessment, school reform, risk and resilience, and developing social competence in children with challenging behavior.

She has directed several federally-funded research and personnel preparation grants on interdisciplinary practices and collaborative teaming, responsive interventions for children with challenging behavior, and evidence-based early literacy practices. Dr. Stoiber also conducts research on models of response-to-intervention (RTI) and is the author of two problem-solving assessment and intervention packages, Functional Assessment and Intervention System and Outcomes: Planning, Monitoring, Evaluating (published by Pearson/The Psychological Corporation), and the Social Competence Performance Checklist, which is a screening measure designed to target and monitor children with challenging behavior.

Karen currently is an Associate Editor of the Communique published by the National Association of School Psychologists and has served as Associate Editor of School Psychology Quarterly, School Psychology Review, Handbook of School Psychology and the Encyclopedia of Psychology.
