During times of student crisis, we are limited to a few interventions. Conversely, there are a host of strategies we can use to prevent and reduce the impact student aggression has on the learning environment. This session will highlight a preventative cycle for student aggression using systematic and evidence-based strategies based on the foundation of Social Emotional Learning (SEL). Session objectives will show how teachers can become more socially aware of students emotions and behavior in order to recognize the warning signs and triggers of possible student aggression; how to proactively plan interventions and used them with consistency and fidelity; how to progress monitor in order to evaluate aggression plan effectiveness; and how to self-manage emotions in order to respond effectively to student’s aggressive behavior.
