This session will address the identification of dyslexia, reading disorders, and language disorders, including overlapping features and differentiating factors. A diagnostic model of dyslexia including symptoms, causes/correlates, and risk factors will be presented, as well as the impact these issues have on language performance. The diagnostic model presented will provide a guide for the assessment of important factors in determining the presence of dyslexia, and the speech-pathologists' role in identifying reading disorder subtypes and supporting the selection of targeted interventions.
